Vocabularies Available For Purchase

WordPower™ (bundle with TouchChat® or purchase in-app!)

WordPower for TouchChat is a special version of this popular word-based vocabulary, designed specifically for the iPod® and iPad® screens. It is a word-based page set developed by Nancy L. Inman, M.A.T., CCC-SLP that is used to create sentences "on the fly." Exclusive to the TouchChat software, WordPower contains several page sets, all of which will be available to you when you purchase WordPower.

WordPower20 Simply incorporates carrier phrases with core words for quick and easy language generation and therefore, could be called a “hybrid,” because it can be used primarily as a phrase-based system, or as a word-based system. It was designed for users with motor disabilities and access issues, those with vision impairment that need large cells and print, cognitively and severely language disabled individuals who benefit from phrases to assist with quick language generation, and those who have scanning access needs.

WordPower25 Touch & Scan is a new vocabulary designed to be accessible via direct selection as well as scanning for quick and easy language generation. It incorporates carrier phrases with core words that move seamlessly between the main page and related categories. Individuals who need a sophisticated and efficient language system with a minimum number of cells per page will benefit from this robust vocabulary.

WordPower42 is a word-based vocabulary that allows for easy and intuitive communication. This program has been designed specifically for the iPad®, and it is now included with the purchase of WordPower. *It works most efficiently on the iPad® 2. WordPower42 is a generative language system that will be familiar to those using WordPower on other systems, and easy to learn for new users.

WordPower42 Basic is a simplified version of WordPower42. This word-based system remains rich in core vocabulary, and it may be appropriate for beginning users or those that need a more basic vocabulary design. It is designed to make communication fast and easy.

WordPower48 is a modified version of WordPower42, but it includes an extra column on every page. The extra column includes designated buttons for clear, smart period, delete word, and plural –s. It is a word-based vocabulary that was designed to be an easy and intuitive generative language system. 

WordPower60 consists of a large number of high frequency words available on the main page, resulting in fast communication with reduced keystrokes. Word completion and logical next words are used, and the "grammar" function provides morphological endings to verbs, nouns and adjectives. Spelling with word prediction along with the category-based pages contained in all other versions of the vocabulary are also available. This vocabulary is configured to work with a keyguard.

WordPower60 Basic is the newest WordPower vocabulary for the TouchChat app. It was designed with early language learners in mind, providing ample picture support and novel structures to facilitate expressive language development. Core vocabulary is embedded within category and activity pages, allowing easy generation of language from the main core page as well as within specific topic-based pages. Core words remain consistent in terms of placement and access, providing a natural bridge between core and fringe words. Early literacy is enhanced by providing pages designed to teach language and core through children’s books.

WordPower80 is a vocabulary consisting of high frequency core words, spelling and word prediction, all on the main page. It also includes the category-based pages contained in all other versions of the vocabulary. With this setup, the user can use core words in the same sentences without moving to a separate page to spell. This vocabulary is configured to work with a keyguard

WordPower108 consists of a large number of high frequency words on the main page, resulting in fast communication and quick access to core words. Word completion and logical next words are used, and the “grammar” function provides morphological endings to verbs, nouns and adjectives.

WordPower108 with Keyboard is a vocabulary consisting of high frequency core words, spelling, and word prediction. With the keyboard on the main page, the communicator moves seamlessly between words and spelling, thus minimizing keystrokes and the need for navigation. Common core words are embedded within the category pages in order to assist in bridging the gap between core and fringe vocabulary.

WordPower140 was designed with switch scanners and direct selectors in mind. The large number of cells makes communication fast and easy, with less page navigation required. The keyboard and word prediction cells are available on the main page for easy access. Common core words are embedded within the category pages in order to assist in bridging the gap between core and fringe vocabulary.

Gateway 12 Child Manual

Gateway 12-Child targets young children who are developmentally ready to create multi-word messages. Gateway 12-Child helps emerging communicators develop language by using their AAC devices in play activities. Through these topical page sets, children can be engaged in play activities and learn to communicate in focused contexts. Gateway 12-Child includes eleven topical page sets – Basic Needs. Art Activity, Play House, Time to Cook, School, Nursery Rhymes, Let’s Play, Where’s Spot, Birthday, Simon Says – Body Parts, and Simon Says – Actions. Activities are intended to be mediated by an adult communication partner or peer.

Gateway 20-Child

Gateway 20-Child targets preschool and school-aged children who communicate using 1-2 word messages and have the potential to improve their expressive language performance. It is a transitional step from Gateway 12-Child to Gateway 20-Child. Gateway 20-Child includes over 800 words along with features that help children form multi-word sentences. Sentence Development Links provide a simplified approach to sentence formation. A “My Themes” folder, located on the Main Page, links the child to five Thematic folders – About Me, Time to Chat, Time to Learn, Time to Play, and Time in Town. Each folder contains a variety of activity sets designed to increase a child’s opportunities to improve social interaction and to facilitate participation in educational and recreational activities.

Gateway 40-Child

Gateway 40-Child targets school-aged children who communicate using multi-word messages. It is constructed to facilitate use of advanced language structures. Gateway 40-Child is a logical next step for children using Gateway 20-Child who now require a more complex vocabulary and/or who have made significant gains in expressive language performance. Its powerful MAIN page has a core of the most frequently used words of our language available through a single key selection. Combined core and fringe vocabulary total well over 2000 words. A School Core page enables users to access topical school vocabulary without losing access to Gateway’s core. Key features of Gateway 40-Child include the use of Semantic Power Strips, sets of paradigmatically associated words; Sentence Development Links that facilitate rapid sentence generation and Dynamic Morphology, where targeted word endings are appropriately presented minimizing keystroke selections. Some users who could benefit from a more functionally based vocabulary can seamlessly transition to Gateway 20-Teen from Gateway 20-Child. Gateway 20-Teen includes over 800 words along with features that help users form multi-word messages. Sentence Development Links provide a simplified approach to facilitate sentence formation. Semantic Power Strips, sets of paradigmatically associated words, provide a focused array of vocabulary to broaden the options available to the user. Gateway 30-Teen is designed for teens and young adults who demonstrate limitations in their cognitive-language performance. Candidates communicate using single or multiple word utterances and typically do not use function words (e.g. the, with) or word endings such as “-ing or “ed” as a part of their spontaneous message generation. The vocabulary of Gateway 30-Teen is functionally based, reflecting many activities of daily living. Gateway 30-Teen includes over 1500 words along with features such as Sentence Development Links that provide a simplified approach to facilitating sentence formation. Semantic Power Strips, sets of paradigmatically associated words, provide a focused array of vocabulary to broaden the options available to the user. The Gateway 30-Teen page set includes simple object categories such as Foods, Household, Hygiene, Clothing, along with folders for Community Places and Things, News, Events and School Places and Things. A My Themes folder links the user to six Tabs - About Me, About You, Comments & Questions, Time to Learn and Time to Relax. Gateway 40-Teen targets teens and young adults who have good receptive and expressive language abilities but benefit from a reduced symbol set. Its powerful MAIN page has a core of the most frequently used words of our language available through a single key selection. Combined core and fringe vocabulary total well over 2000 words. A School & Community Core page enables users to access topical school vocabulary without losing access to Gateway’s core. Use of the full complement of Gateway’s “Dynamic Morphology” results in keystroke savings enhancing the efficiency of Gateway 40-Teen. Generating a sentence takes an average of 1.5 keystrokes per word. Semantic Power Strips, and Sentence Development Links that facilitate rapid sentence generation are provided. Core, fringe and “Thematic pages” address needs and interests of teens and young adults.
